An overview of all academic awards and funding opportunities of the Ethologische Gesellschaft e.V., including deadlines, can be downloaded here. Usually, successful applicants will be awarded their funding after all receipts have been submitted to our treasurer. However, we understand that upfront costs can be prohibitive for some projects. We therefore encourage potential applicants to contact our funding officer so that we can arrange a way to transfer the grant funding upfront. If you have any questions or comments about our funding schemes, please also contact our funding officer.

Stipends for early-career researchers

The Ethologische Gesellschaft e.V. supports research of early-career researchers by providing funding up to €500 for BSc & MSc theses stipends and up to €1,000 for PhD-pilot-projects. The goal of these stipends is to support:

  • BSc & MSc theses.
  • Pilot studies for PhD-projects.

Deadline for submission is 31 March each year. Applications should be submitted by e-mail to our funding officer. Applicants are strongly encouraged to use the respective forms, i.e. for BSc & MSc students and for PhD students, and will receive an acknowledgement of receipt of their application by e-mail. Each application, handed in complete and timely, will be reviewed by members of the extended council. Criteria are the scientific quality of the project, the excellence of the applicant, and the expected benefit of the funding for the project.

Please note that applicants need to be members of our society (for PhD students: member for at least one year; for BSc & MSc students: member at the time of application). In addition, applicants need to be actively involved in all phases of the project.

Applications must contain the following:

  • Name, address, and affiliation
  • Project title, summary, background information, research question with predictions and hypotheses, methods and time schedule, references
  • Estimation of costs, other available funds

Successful applicants render their stipends according to the regulations for accounting and expenses of the society. Successful applicants are encouraged to present their project at one of the societies’ annual meetings or the ECBB and to summarize their findings in a report that will be published in EthoNews. Publications or presentations of projects that were funded by the Ethologische Gesellschaft e.V. should contain statements, highlighting the financial support.

Research funds
